Soil Lingo 2026: The New Zealand Field Soils short course
27–29 November 2026
Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand

By participating in Soil Lingo 2026, you will be able to claim 23 hours of verifiable, structured continuing professional development (CPD).

The NZSSS Soil Lingo Event is fully structured to satisfy the continuing professional development (CPD) compliance frameworks of major New Zealand professional bodies.

Whether you are tracking hours for NZIPIM (Registered Farm Consultant), NZGS/Engineering NZ (CPEng), or Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnVP) registers, this field-based program delivers audited, technical upskilling in soil profile description, pedology, soil classification and land-use assessment.

Program Overview & CPD Breakdown
Key Learning Objectives

On completion of this specialized event, participants will be equipped to:

1. Apply the New Zealand Soil Classification (NZSC) system and New Zealand Soil Description handbook criteria accurately to unknown soil profiles in the field.

2. Recognise, describe and interpret soil morphological features to evaluate soil development and soil drainage classes.

3. Synthesize raw morphological data (texture, structure, mottling) to make informed decisions regarding land-use capability, structural engineering constraints, and soil protection metrics.

4. Build an awareness that soil exists as a natural body within the bio-physical landscape and its relevance to sustainable land management.

Audit & Verification Logistics

• Attendance Tracking: Your physical arrival at the field venue and the formal submission of your finalized competition scorecards serve as the verified audit trail of your active participation.

• Certification: Upon completion of the conference, a dedicated Field Competition Addendum Certificate will be issued to your registered email, explicitly detailing your 23 structured hours for seamless inclusion in your professional register logbook.
